Yorkshire
Art Space, Sheffield
April - May
The project
Ben set himself the challenge of working on a really large scale within
the Public Art Space. He proposed creating three paintings each 2m. x
4m. These would be fitted with wheels at the base, and leant up against
the walls. Working to this scale was appropriate to the scale of the space,
14m. x 10m. by 5m. high.
To work on the paintings, he would lie them flat on
the floor, and use a wheeled trolley to track up and down.
He could also work on the lower portion when they were in
a vertical position, leaning against the wall. He installed
a pulley system to enable him to manoeuvre the large canvasses,
raising and lowering them as required.
The entire process of creating and working on the canvasses
was recorded by a camera fixed to the ceiling. Thus one of
the outputs was an edited video of the process of creating
the paintings.
