Hooked Project: Identities
Hetain ran workshops with local young people, inviting them
to explore the impact of clothing on their sense of identity.
He took photos of them in their normal Goth clothing, and
then in very conventional suits and twin sets – transformed!
He also created a video of them talking about how they are
received when wearing their chosen apparel – with comments
such as being perceived as threatening – but spoken
when wearing conventional clothing. This created a striking
disjunction between what is seen and what is heard, and provoked
the viewer / listener to reflect on their own prejudices.
