Early on in the
residency Tabitha was drawn to the pathos surrounding the
small mummy of a young girl. She gathered together a number
of different dolls and materials, and worked on the pieces
as a group, spending time thinking about the choice of material
and ties appropriate for each. In this way they evolved slowly
and as a group. By then placing them amongst the artefacts
in the display cases in the Egyptology collection, she set
up intriguing connections. Each doll had its own accession
label, which provoked the viewer into questioning the narrative
behind the artefact – what role did this doll play in
Bolton in 2004?
