Yorkshire
Sculpture Park
The Park comprises 500 acres of 18th. centure
landscape grounds, with a new Visitor Centre and large underground
gallery. It is one of Europe's leading open-air sculpture parks,
with a changing programme of displays in a range of settings, where
visitors may touch, feel and explore works of art. The underpinning
ethos is that art has a valuable role to play within human development,
and there is a commitment to life-long learning and engagement with
groups of all abilities.
There are works by leading names, including
Moore, Hepworth, Frink and Caro, with major exhibitions of established
artists such as William Turnbull, James Turrell and Anthony Gormley.

The brief
Yorkshire Sculpture Park were looking for
an artist who would develop their creative practice and create new
work in response to some aspect of the grounds, outdoor displays,
exhibitions or archives.
There was no exhibition requirement, but
the artist would be able to display work temporarily in the outdoor
environment, or within indoor spaces.
The artist was expected to produce visual
material that documented the ideas explored and work created during
the residency.
For the first time, a collaborative between
two recent graduates, Sam Clayton and Mark Jacobs, was selected.
For more about their work to date, see Sam
and Mark
